We now seek a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Science & Higher Education division on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day commercial management of our construction projects.

Optimising the profitability and cash flow of projects, you will manage subcontractor selection including package procurement and order placing. You will ensure these processes are well documented and accessible for sign-off.

Taking responsibility for the project valuation processes, you will set up and undertake interim valuations that consider updated final accounts and maximise our commercial position.

Additionally, your role will involve:

- Overseeing the second stage tendering process
- Producing accurate and timely financial reports
- Leading change management, including loss and expense matters

About You

To be considered as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will need to demonstrate:

- Relevant experience in the construction sector and knowledge of the complexities involved
- Experience in managing large teams (desirable)
- Proven record of dealing with several projects of varying value, type and complexity
- Familiarity with standard forms of measurement and managing re-measurement
- An expert understanding of the relationship between cost and value
- The ability to review and challenge construction and pre-construction programmes
- Excellent risk mitigation strategies
- The ability to plan, maintain, control and report on the financial administration of projects
- Strong negotiation skills
- A relevant professional qualification

As a Project Leader, you will oversee the consistent delivery of a range of construction projects, by leading the full project lifecycle.

You will develop and implement a project strategic plan and workflow, including contractual obligations and required resources. You will mitigate risk so that projects are delivered safely, within timeframes, within budget and to agreed standards.

Emphasising quality and safety, you will implement a safety-first culture for all staff and sub-contractors, whilst monitoring team compliance with our quality management systems and our client’s requirements.

Additionally, your role will involve:

- Ensuring correct systems are in place to issue design information
- Leading project procurement strategy and delivery
- Implementing commercial and procurement risk mitigation strategies
- Establishing and maintaining excellent communication with stakeholders
- Overseeing the environmental impact of site activities

About You

To be considered as a Project Leader, you will ideally demonstrate the following:

- Experienced leader with experience overseeing and managing people and teams
- Previous construction experience in heritage would be advantageous
- The ability to plan and maintain an appropriate site set-up for the scale of the project
- The foresight to plan, manage and coordinate all resources needed to deliver the project
- Extensive experience working in operational live environments
- Extensive temporary works, scaffolding and logistics experience
- Knowledge of safe work systems
- Strong knowledge of programme management and control
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- CSCS, SMSTS and First Aid qualifications

The Role

As an M&E Services Manager (Mechanically Biased), you will manage building services designs, information and sub-contractors for a portfolio of specific projects, from enquiry stage through to handover and aftercare. You will manage the successful integration and delivery of MEP services for your projects, ensuring our supply chain delivers the required benchmarks of Health and Safety, Quality, and programme compliance.

You will be responsible for producing detailed commissioning programmes and managing the entire commissioning process, ensuring seamless integration of all building services.

Additionally, you will take charge of the management and coordination of all utilities installations and related statutory authorities, working collaboratively across all departments in alignment with the Inter-Departmental Integration of Activities Schedule.

About You

To be considered as an M&E Services Manager (Mechanically Biased), you will need to demonstrate:

- Qualifications appropriate to the role
- Ability to obtain/maintain CSCS accreditation
- Extensive MEP technical knowledge and the ability to comprehensively interrogate all technical information, design details and identify potential design issues
- An understanding of programming principles and how MEP integrates with the building fabric
- Ability to review, understand and challenge construction and pre-construction programmes and progress reports
- Familiarity with the Walter Lilly Supply Chain members and knowledge of their capabilities and relevant experience
- A clear and concise understanding of CDP requirements, processes and responsibilities
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices
- Working knowledge of temporary services and site logistic requirements
- Experience in successfully dealing with Utility suppliers
- Ability to understand subcontractor’s contractual responsibilities
- An understanding of standard/commonly used contractual provisions
- Sufficient commercial acumen to compare subcontractor submissions against cost plans and identify over-valuation in subcontractor applications
- Ability to identify change and assess the resulting implications
- Ability to prepare professional and accurate technical appraisal documents for submission
- A comprehensive understanding of commissioning access requirements
- Significant experience with Walter Lilly market sectors and a general understanding of the complexities involved with such projects
- Ability to understand the landscape of Walter Lilly clients and consultants, the different roles, their competition and peers
- Ability to understand what information is needed to report internally on relationships and project opportunities
- Good construction knowledge with good knowledge of Walter Lilly standard forms and procedures
- Appropriate level of IT competency with the ability to utilise Walter Lilly systems
- Experience in successfully completing several projects of varying value, type and complexity as the MEP lead
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, inspiring and motivating others in the process
